DEE-Ltd reveals its advanced engineering capability for land, air and water applications

12th November, 2013

In the eighteen months since DEE-Ltd moved into its Cubbington, Warwickshire Technical Centre, the company has exponentially broadened its activities into new sectors and earned a growing reputation for its innovative and fresh approach to design engineering problem solving. Whilst its core automotive design and engineering services practice continues to expand, DEE-Ltd has concurrently developed a light multi-role all-terrain military platform, configured and packaged engine units for static industrial applications, supported thrust fan engine projects for hovercraft and most recently collaborated on the evolution of an off-the-shelf driveline for microlight / light sport aircraft and Gyro planes. Other accolade-winning assignments include the radical redesign of the steering and suspension of a front-wheel-drive taxi, to achieve essential inner city turning circle and manoeuvrability performance.

DEE-Ltd has an EU-wide import and distribution agreement for the supply of Toyota ‘crate engines’ and it has been instrumental in seeding these proprietary power units into the motorsport and kit car sectors. One current programme will see the installation and packaging of the compact but powerful 3-cylinder petrol engine into a ‘Seven-class’ sports car, with a resultant reduction in unladen weight. DEE-Ltd has also developed applications of the same engine as a range extender in the electric/hybrid vehicle market, where its compact dimensions and excellent power to weight ratio make it an obvious choice.

DEE-Ltd’s successful specialist defence vehicle business to date has been undertaken with strategic partner Enhanced Protection Systems (EPS) and the two companies have recently matured their work together into a new joint venture, known as Ascender Vehicles Limited. Its light, two-seater all-terrain platform, Whippet 2, will commence trials shortly, before a planned demonstration tour of key export and emerging markets overseas. Powered by a Lombardini diesel engine, driving through automatic transmission, the multi-role vehicle is designed for air or heli-borne insertion directly into military theatres.

DEE-Ltd Founder and Managing Director, Neil McAdam says,” We are a quite deliberately diversified business, both in terms of the scope of work we undertake and the sectors we serve. We have earned our reputation for thinking outside the box – and that has evolved as much at the behest of our clients as it has out of our own ambition. This has also put us in a strong position to support the very varied requirements of the advanced engineering market – and particularly companies which cut their in-house design and development resources during the economic downturn. Now, as the market recovers, we are ideally placed to act as an out-source capability, working effectively as an extension of the internal team”.
