DEE-Ltd expands its Toyota engine sales and applications engineering capability for motorsport, road, air and water

DEE-Ltd returns to Autosport Engineering this week to showcase its widening range of powertrain products and highlight the broadening scope of its applications engineering capability. The company now offers full packages, options and variants for race, road, air and water. Recent projects include installations and integration into track day chassis, hybrid powertrains, hovercraft, microlight / light sport aircraft and Gyro-copters.

Centrepiece of DEE-Ltd’s display at this year’s Autosport Engineering Show is its latest development of Toyota’s already highly successful D-1KR-FE 1-litre 12- valve DOHC 3-cylinder in line petrol engine, for installation in ‘Seven-Class’ sportscars. In normally aspirated form, the engine delivers 80bhp and 94Nm of torque, whilst a supercharged version, developed by DEE-Ltd for higher performance applications, develops 120bhp and 150Nm.

The compact die cast aluminium block engine weighs in at just 69 kg, making it one of the best power to weight ratio stock based engines on the market. With the application of further light weight ancillaries this can be reduced further. DEE-Ltd has also developed alternative throttle body and dry sump options for the unit.

The D-1KR-FE features Toyota’s Direct Ignition System (DIS), Variable Valve Timing-intelligent (VVT-i) system and Electronic Throttle Control System-intelligent (ETCS-i). The multi-award winning engine is currently fitted to the Toyota Yaris, Aygo, Vitz & iQ. The unit is available as a new, installation-ready ex-factory package, fully dressed with starter, alternator, intake manifold, clutch and flywheel, or to a bespoke customer specification. DEE-Ltd’s unique access to Toyota products also includes matching Toyota transmissions suitable for both longitudinal and transverse installations. Specialist transmissions are available for the higher output power units.

Besides the latest 3-cylinder petrol units, DEE-Ltd offers a range of Toyota i-3, i-4 and V6 petrol and diesel engines under its agreement to sell aftermarket Toyota powertrain products (‘crate engines’) across Europe.

Amongst the other engines offered for motorsport applications are the D-1ZR-FE, a latest generation aluminium block 1.6-litre in line 4-cylinder, 16-valve DOHC petrol engine, which produces 122bhp in standard specification with 157Nm of torque at 5200rpm. The popular D-3ZR-FE is a 2.0 litre in line 4-cylinder, 16-valve DOHC petrol engine which delivers 165 bhp in standard specification with 200Nm of torque at 4500rpm.

At the top end of the line-up is the Toyota 3.5 litre V6 D-2GR-FE engine, first shown by DEE-Ltd at last year’s Autosport Engineering Show. Starting with an entry level power output of 274 bhp, DEE-Ltd offers a range of upgrades, enhancements and power options to take boosted delivery up to 450 bhp for track applications. DEE-Ltd also offers a tailored engineering service to help install, calibrate and validate its products to meet specific customer performance or emissions requirements.

In the eighteen months since DEE-Ltd moved into its Cubbington, Warwickshire Technical Centre, the company has exponentially broadened its activities into new sectors and earned a growing reputation for its innovative and fresh approach to design engineering problem solving. Its customers now include an array of UK based OEMs as well as a growing number of international manufacturers and motorsport clients, including F1.

Whilst its core automotive design and engineering services practice continues to expand, DEE-Ltd has concurrently developed a light multi-role all-terrain military platform, configured and packaged engine units for static industrial applications, supported thrust fan engine projects for hovercraft and most recently collaborated on the evolution of an off-the-shelf driveline for microlight / light sport aircraft and Gyro-copters. Other accolade-winning assignments include the radical redesign of the steering and suspension of a front-wheel-drive taxi, to achieve essential inner city turning circle and manoeuvrability performance.
